By using StarryDex you agree to the terms below. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.

1. Use of the site

StarryDex is provided free of charge for personal, educational and non-commercial use. You may read, share and link to any page. You may use screenshots and quotations in classrooms, presentations and articles, provided StarryDex is credited and linked.

2. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• attempt to disrupt, overload or gain unauthorised access to the site or its infrastructure;
• run automated bulk downloads of the site's data. If you want the dataset for research or a project, ask — the answer is usually yes;
• submit offensive, impersonating or unlawful nicknames to the Trivia leaderboard. Entries that break this are removed without notice;
• republish the site's written content wholesale as if it were your own.

3. Astronomical data and imagery

Measurements are drawn from public scientific catalogues including the NASA Exoplanet Archive, the Yale Bright Star Catalog, SIMBAD and OpenNGC. Those catalogues remain the property of their respective institutions and are used here for educational purposes. The sources for each page are listed on the about page.

Imagery is served from third parties including NASA, ESA, Wikimedia Commons and Unsplash, under the licences those sources publish them with. If you hold rights to an image used on StarryDex and want the credit corrected or the image removed, contact [email protected] and it will be dealt with promptly.

4. Accuracy

We take care to source figures correctly, but StarryDex is an educational site, not a scientific instrument. Values are provided "as is", published measurements are revised over time, and errors are possible. Where a property has no reliable published value the site says "Not measured" rather than guessing.

Do not rely on StarryDex for navigation, research publication, or any purpose where an incorrect figure would cause harm. If you find a mistake, please report it.

5. Written content

The narrative descriptions and blog articles are drafted with the assistance of AI writing tools and published under the StarryDex name, as explained on the about page. They are intended as accessible introductions, not as peer-reviewed material.

6. Advertising

StarryDex is funded by advertising. Advertisements are supplied by third-party networks and are marked as such. We do not endorse advertised products, and advertisers have no influence over editorial content. Cookies used for advertising, and how to opt out of personalised ads, are described in the privacy policy.

Pages link to external websites we do not control. We are not responsible for their content, accuracy or practices.

8. Availability
